During the final two days of Term 3, Gilibaa had the pleasure of welcoming staff from Redfern Jarjums School for a wonderful opportunity to connect, share knowledge and strengthen our commitment to culture and learning.
On Thursday, visitors explored Worimi Country with Gawan, learning to slow down, observe their surroundings and listen to the wind. The day concluded with a shared dinner alongside Gilibaa staff, providing an opportunity to build relationships and connect.
On Friday, visitors joined Gilibaa staff and students for breakfast before participating in circle time, where students proudly shared Gathang songs and dances, spoke about what Gilibaa means to them and explained what they love about their school. Visitors then explored our classrooms before sharing morning tea and engaging in meaningful conversations with staff.
Together, we discussed how Gilibaa supports students and families, shared trauma-informed practices, explored programs and exchanged ideas about how our schools can learn from one another. It was a valuable opportunity to reflect on how we can continue strengthening cultural identity, supporting students affected by trauma and creating safe, supportive learning environments.
We look forward to visiting Redfern Jarjums in the near future and continuing to build a strong partnership that celebrates culture, connection and learning.
