Since opening in 2024, St Philip's Christian College Gilibaa has become a place where Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students are known, valued and empowered to thrive.
Built in partnership with the Worimi community, Gilibaa was created to provide a culturally rich learning environment where educational excellence, identity and belonging walk together.
We are excited to announce our intention to expand to Year 7 in 2027, continuing the journey for students and families who have become part of the Gilibaa story.
Expressions of Interest are now open for Year 7 2027, subject to final NESA approval expected in October 2026.

A First for the Hunter Region
The proposed Year 7 program at Gilibaa will be the first educational pathway of its kind for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students in the Hunter Region.
Our vision is to create a learning environment where students can continue to grow academically while strengthening their cultural identity, confidence and connection to community.
This is more than an additional year level. It is an opportunity for students to continue learning in a place where culture is valued, relationships are strong, and every child is known and supported.
The students who join Year 7 in 2027 will become our founding secondary cohort.
Together, they will help shape the future of Gilibaa and be part of an exciting new chapter in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander education within the Hunter Region.

What Will Year 7 Look Like?
Gilibaa's proposed Year 7 model combines the strengths of a culturally responsive learning environment with the opportunities available through secondary education.
Students will learn alongside a dedicated Core Teacher at Gilibaa for subjects including:
- English
- Gathang Language
- Culture
- On Country Learning
- Integrated wellbeing and pastoral care
Students will also access specialist facilities, resources and teachers through St Philip's Christian College Port Stephens for subjects such as:
- Music
- Food Technology
- Design & Technology
- Timber & Design
- Digital Technologies
- Other specialist learning opportunities
This unique model allows students to benefit from both strong relationships and personalised support, while accessing broader secondary educational experiences.

St Philip’s Christian College Gilibaa has applied for NESA approval to deliver Year 7 in 2027. NESA has advised that their recommendation to the Minister is to grant initial registration. Formal confirmation is expected by October 2026.
