At St Philip’s Christian College Cessnock, we are committed to honouring the traditions and significance of ANZAC Day. On 25 April 2025, we came together to pay tribute to the bravery, sacrifice, and service of the men and women who have served our country, both past and present.
We were deeply honoured to be invited to the Wollombi Dawn Service, where Michael Collaros, a veteran and College parent, lit a candle on behalf of our community. This quiet and powerful moment reminded us of the deep connection between service and sacrifice that lies at the heart of the ANZAC tradition.
Across our region, we were proud to see a strong turnout from our students who represented the College at the Singleton, Branxton, and Cessnock ANZAC Day parades. Their presence was a meaningful gesture of respect and gratitude, and we are incredibly thankful for the families and staff who supported these commemorations.
Following the school holidays, our College came together for a whole school ANZAC Day Assembly. The service, led by students, was both moving and dignified. It featured thoughtful reflections, a performance of the Last Post, and a beautiful musical item from our Year 7 to 12 choir group.
As part of our learning focus, we also explored the lesser known but significant contributions of animals in times of war. This offered students a broader perspective on service and sacrifice, deepening their understanding and appreciation for those who have contributed in diverse and remarkable ways.
We are grateful for the opportunity to pause, remember, and educate, ensuring that the ANZAC legacy continues to live on in the hearts and minds of our students.
Lest we forget.
