SPCC Online

• Exceptional Online Learning

  SPCC Online has been intentionally designed as an online learning environment, rather than as a digital replication of a traditional classroom. It harnesses the strengths of digital learning to enhance high-quality teaching, deepen student engagement and create meaningful learning experiences.

• Expanding Opportunities

  Learning should not be limited by geographical location, school timetables or access to resources. SPCC Online broadens the educational opportunities available to students across the SPCC group of schools by using digital systems to remove barriers, expand subject choice and connect learners with experienced teachers and one another.

• Human-Centred, AI-Enhanced

  Artificial intelligence is used to support learning, not to replace teachers or authentic student thinking. As SPCC Online develops, AI will provide timely feedback, personalised guidance and adaptive support. Teachers will remain central to learning through mentoring, coaching, discernment, formation and relational care. Students will also learn to use AI ethically, responsibly and purposefully.

• Connected Learning Communities

  Relationships are foundational to SPCC Online. Every student is connected to a network of teachers, mentors, peers and wellbeing support. Teachers serve as expert educators, mentors and coaches, while students participate in a connected community where they collaborate, encourage one another and grow together throughout their learning journey.

• Flexible Learning, Clear Accountability

  Learning is delivered through a combination of asynchronous and synchronous experiences. This gives students flexibility in when and how they learn, while maintaining clear expectations, regular participation and academic rigour. Students receive support through online lessons, tutorials, Drop-In Support Sessions, small-group activities, individual mentoring and feedback conferences.

• Safety and Wellbeing

  SPCC Online provides a safe and supportive digital environment in which students can learn and thrive. Secure ICT systems, appropriate digital safeguards and meaningful relationships with staff and peers help students engage confidently and responsibly in online learning. Every student is known, supported and encouraged through intentional pastoral care that nurtures both learning and personal growth.

• Future Readiness

  SPCC Online prepares students not only for the HSC, but also for future learning and work in an increasingly digital world. Students develop adaptability, creativity, critical thinking, collaboration, digital fluency and responsible agency. They also strengthen the self-management, organisational and independent learning skills needed for success in tertiary education, employment and emerging industries.

Asynchronous learning

Asynchronous learning allows students to access course content and complete learning activities at suitable times throughout the week. This provides students with flexibility to manage their learning while still meeting weekly course requirements and deadlines.

Each week, students will access the following through the dedicated SPCC Online iLearn learning management system:

• Weekly Broadcast: A video from the course teacher introducing the week’s learning goals, content and activities.
• Learning Bytes: Two to five structured blocks of course content. Each Learning Byte may include an instructional video, multimodal learning materials, activities and a short assessment to check students’ understanding.
• Pulse Check-In: A short survey used to monitor student wellbeing, progress and engagement.

Synchronous learning

Synchronous learning takes place in real time and allows students to interact with their teacher and classmates through video conferencing.

Each week, students will participate in the following:

• Class Connect Lesson: A compulsory one-hour online class held at a regular time each week. The teacher will lead collaborative and interactive activities that apply the content covered in the weekly Learning Bytes. Class Connect lessons will be scheduled outside regular school hours.
• Group Connect Meeting: A compulsory 20-minute online meeting in which students complete a short collaborative activity in a small group. Group members will arrange a suitable weekly meeting time.
• Drop-In Support Session: An optional 90-minute online session offered each week. Students can attend to work on course activities, ask questions and receive assistance from their teacher while learning alongside their peers.

iLearn

SPCC Online will have a dedicated iLearn learning management system. Students will use iLearn to:

• access weekly learning materials
• complete learning activities
• submit assessment tasks
• receive assessment results and feedback
• access course information and support resources

Information and support resources for parents and carers will also be available through iLearn.

Microsoft Teams

A dedicated Microsoft Teams site will be created for each SPCC Online class. Students will use Microsoft Teams to:

• communicate with their teacher and classmates
• participate in video conferencing lessons
• collaborate on learning activities
• receive reminders and course updates
• access additional teacher support
