‘Book an Adventure’ theme inspires imagination and community during Festival of Words and Grandparents’ Day
St Philip’s Christian College Cessnock recently celebrated two much-loved events that highlighted creativity, imagination and community. This year’s Festival of Words and Grandparents Day reflected the 2025 theme, Book an Adventure, and encouraged students to explore the power of storytelling while connecting with those who support their learning journey.
Students from across the Junior, Middle and Senior Schools enjoyed a wide range of Festival of Words activities. Highlights included Book Character Dress-Up Day, bookmark design competitions and the popular 'Book in a Jar' guessing game. The Book Fair created excitement in the Junior and Middle Schools, with every purchase contributing to the ongoing growth of our library collections. A visit from award-winning author Ashleigh Barton offered inspiration for students to develop their own story ideas and explore the question, “What if?”
Grandparents Day was a special opportunity for students to welcome grandparents and significant family members to the College. Guests visited classrooms, watched performances and enjoyed morning tea while spending meaningful time with their grandchildren. The day acknowledged the important role families play in nurturing a love of learning.
Both events provided an opportunity to step outside of routine and celebrate the joy of learning, reading and relationships that strengthen our school community.
