We are thrilled to announce that selected students from Year 9 and 10 were accepted into the prestigious High Performing Students Program Semester 1, 2024. This remarkable achievement is the result of a collaborative effort between the The University of Newcastle, Australia and the NSW Department of Education. The program, spanning 15 weeks, offered these students a unique opportunity to gain a 'taste' of tertiary education while still in high school.
The High Performing Students Program is designed to help exceptional high school students reach their academic potential, make informed career decisions, and earn credit for university studies. Unlike typical school programs, this initiative immerses students in authentic university-level courses, unmodified for their age group. They are taught by university lecturers and experience the same academic rigour and challenges faced by tertiary students. This exposure provides invaluable insights into the demands and expectations of higher education. By successfully completing this course, students can use their experience as credit towards a university degree, further paving their way towards higher education.
Three of these students donned academic gowns and attended the Graduation Ceremony for this program at the University of Newcastle’s Great Hall. They were recognised for their outstanding achievements alongside 26 students from other Hunter high schools.
We are immensely proud of our students' accomplishments and look forward to seeing how they leverage this experience to further their academic and professional journeys.
Congratulations to all the students who participated in this transformative program!
