Vocational Education and Training (VET) provides students with a wide range of alternative pathways towards the HSC and post school options. Vocational Education subjects are available to both academic and non-academic students. Students with special educational needs can access of VET subjects to enable them to gain skills and experience for a smooth transition from school to work.

Aims of Vocational Education and Training
It's not easy making big decisions about your future, especially where your career is concerned. That is why, at St Philip's Christian College, students can undertake a VET Pathway whilst completing their HSC.
In Stage 6 (and in special cases in Stage 5), students can choose courses that create pathways and will help them move from school to work or further education with confidence.
Some may even take advantage of a School Based Traineeship/ Apprenticeship while continuing to study at school.
Students may study industry-recognised subjects as part of their HSC pattern of study and leave school with vocational qualifications and skills that are recognised by employers and training providers Australia wide. In today’s competitive job market, studying vocational courses, can provide just that edge needed for future employment.
From a Christian perspective, vocational education at SPCC will give students the opportunity to gain skills that could assist them with future employment prospects. One must work hard at gaining skills that will help them to become useful and productive citizens in the workplace and community. Education at SPCC recognises the needs of the whole child, and vocational education fits firmly into that model. With reference to one of our Core Values – “serve one another” – we want to appreciate the unique God-given potential of each person.
Selecting VET Subjects
- VET courses enable students to gain industry skills and experience while studying for the HSC. Students receive accreditation from NESA and AQF Nationally recognised qualifications.
- Certificate III level qualifications can lead to university entrance at a variety of universities. See University of Newcastle Vocational Entrance information here.
- Students who go on to further study may also be accredited with credit transfer for units already complete.
- Students access a wider range of specific equipment and facilities at industry level.
- Students may have the opportunity to study in an adult environment.
- General capability skills developed are considered valuable to employers in the workplace.
- On the job work placements provide additional work skills and future employment contacts.
