Teaching since 1994 in both Australia and the UK, in High School Humanities and Special Education I have experienced the diverse needs of students. The joy of seeing students excel, no matter what obstacles and to be happy with who they are and what they can offer to others, has contributed to why I am still in Education. It’s a privilege really. Most recently my husband and I have been teaching in QLD.Â
The complexities and challenges for both parents and students in our school system supporting inclusion, led me to post graduate study to better understand how to help, how to make sense of what was needed and how to share that.
I have had many leadership roles in Inclusion on the coast, country and the outback. I have worked in communities with indigenous students and in remote places. The resilience & innovation of those I have met and worked with has had a huge impact on me.Â
Are we defined by what we start with in life or by how we finish? Is Disability a difference or is it a gift?Â
This side of heaven I am grateful to keep learning and helping others in making a difference for all students of all abilities to be what God has made them to be.
I am excited to be part of the St Philips DLC team at Newcastle!Â
