Sport at St Philip’s Christian College Cessnock is continuing to grow through our house sports as well as opportunities to represent our College in various competitions from Principal’s Cup sporting competition through to Hunter Region Independent Schools events. The College aims to consistently be competitive in a wide range of representative sporting competitions, with many of our sporting students and teams successfully winning trophies and medals at all levels of competition.
There are many opportunities for students to represent the College in a wide range of sporting teams, who will participate in various competitions such as HRIS Gala Days, Knockout Competitions or Development Days. Sports which the College may offer include: Basketball, Cricket, Futsal, Football, Netball, Oz Tag, Rugby League/Union, Tennis, Touch Football and Volleyball, Bill Turner Cup and Equestrian events.
The College runs three sporting carnivals each year for Swimming, Cross Country and Athletics. Students participate and represent their College House: Allandale Alligators, Campbell Cockatoos, Lomas Lions and Wonnarua Eagles, with a Champion House being awarded. Students compete to further represent the College at the HRIS regional carnival, and then progress to state level competition at AICES (Secondary only), NSW CIS and NSW All Schools Carnivals.
Over the past few years we have seen representatives at NSW PSSA (Primary), All Schools (Secondary) and Nationals in Athletics and Cross Country as well as CIS players in Rugby League, Rugby Union and Swimming. In addition to fantastic student athletes we have teachers who are involved in high level sports coaching at NSW level in Football (Soccer), Rugby League, Basketball and Australian Rules Football. There are lots of opportunities for our students to receive high level coaching and compete in numerous sports.
Facilities
Our sporting facilities continue to expand, providing students with outstanding opportunities to develop their skills and reach their full potential. The Activate Centre, our indoor sports facility, features indoor sprung basketball courts and a fully equipped gym, consisting of a cardio room and a strength training room. With sport-specific skill development and individualised training programmes, students can enhance their athletic performance in a supportive and dynamic environment.
