A Mural with Meaning: Faith Reflected Across Campus

A Mural with Meaning: Faith Reflected Across Campus

Snowy Mountains Christian School has recently welcomed a new mural that carries deep spiritual meaning, created by artist Elise “CC” Grootenboer.

When commissioned, it was agreed that the existing mountain imagery would remain central to the design. However, CC approached the project as an opportunity to create something that reflected not only the school’s unique landscape, but also its faith foundation.

Drawing on prayer, research and biblical inspiration, the mural reimagines the mountains as more than scenery. The three mountain ranges depicted represent Mount Sinai, the Mount of Olives and Mount Zion—significant places in Scripture where God revealed Himself. Through this symbolism, the artwork points to the past, present and future presence of God, with a prayer that students would encounter Him personally during their time at the school.

In the foreground, three pine trees symbolise the crosses at Jesus’ crucifixion. The central tree represents Jesus and His sacrificial love, while the presence of leaves serves as a powerful reminder of life and resurrection—that although Jesus died, He is alive.

Beyond what can be seen, the mural also carries a hidden layer of intention. Beneath the paint, CC wrote the fruits of the Holy Spirit as a prayer over the school community, along with a message of hope. These words reflect a deep desire that students, staff and families will experience the hope found in Christ.

This mural now stands as both a visual centrepiece and a spiritual reminder: of God’s presence, His love, and His ongoing work in the lives of students at Snowy Mountains Christian School.
