“We are what we repeatedly do, excellence is therefore not an act, but a habit.”

These were the words of our school captain Emily Hickey at the Senior School Assembly on Tuesday, inspired by the philosopher Aristotle. We often think of habits as the bad ones that we develop such as being late or biting our nails. But good habits lead into excellence. We saw evidence of this at the Secondary Swimming Carnival where 16 new school records were set. While we all enjoyed seeing Buckley Ingram, Eve Crowe, Kalia Chadwick and Emily Pudney win their races on the day we know that their success, their excellence, was founded on good habits. I see these students come to school with wet hair knowing their day began looking up and down the black line training hard to enable them to achieve their own levels of excellence. We wish Buckley, Eve and Emily luck as they compete in a NSW Country Championships on the weekend.

The Senior School celebrated Valentine’s Day last Friday with Year 12 holding a cake stall and playing DJ at lunch. Who would have thought that Sweet Caroline by Neil Diamond would be the song of choice? Our leadership team continued to build community through blessing everyone with a Valentine’s Day card and lolly pop, reminding us of one of the most remembered verses in the Bible “There are three things that will endure faith, hope and love and the greatest of these is love.” 1 Corinthians 13:13.

In the Senior school we really value the opportunity to talk to you at parent teacher nights. For us they provide an important opportunity to connect and partner with you in your child’s education. The last few years have seen the inclusion of an information session for parents. Next week during the Year 11 Parent Teacher Information Night we will have a 20-minute information session answering questions about the HSC and provide advice about how you can assist your child in the transition to Year 11. I would love to see everyone at 5:30pm.
