Senior School News - Week 2, Term 1 2020
I was watching on social media all the memes about the joy that parents felt sending their children to school after a long summer holiday. While I was quite amused and could empathise, it did mean that it was now time for the school year to begin which is exciting. Staff had already been at school the previous week engaging in professional learning but school really comes alive when the students arrive. We are all excited about a year full of new students, new learning, new growth, new challenges and a new Principal!
As you may know the theme for the entire year in courage but in the senior school we also have a theme that we explore every term. This term’s theme was chosen by the student leadership team as I met with them on the Tuesday before school went back. The Student Leadership team was unanimous in choosing the theme of excellence. They want the entire senior school to strive for excellence. Excellence, in academic life, the sporting arena and the creative arts. Our bible verse is Philippians 4:13 I can do all things through him who strengthens me.
Next week sees the swimming carnival. Here we have seen students demonstrate excellence as they break school records, swim a personal best or demonstrate courage as they swim maybe in their first 50-meter race. We want students to strive to achieve their personal best. To support and encourage our students we saw the induction of our new House Captains who will be at the pool to cheer all students to do their best.
Week 3 also sees the first of our parent teacher nights. Year 12 parents are warmly invited to come into the senior school on Thursday night at meet with their teachers. I will also be available to speak to any parents on the night. At 5:30 we will be having a special 20 minute session called “Surviving the HSC tips for Parents”. I encourage all Year 12 parents to attend.
Welcome back we are so glad to have your children return for another year of learning at the greatest school in the Southern hemisphere.
