CSIRO Researcher visits St Philip’s

On Friday the 18th of August, Dr Chris Fell, principal research scientist at the CSIRO Photovoltaic Performance Laboratory here in Newcastle, visited the college. 


iSTEM students demonstrate dragsters at Newcastle Museum

As one of the closing activities of National Science Week, St Philip’s iSTEM students were asked to test fire their CO2 powered dragsters at the Newcastle Museum this past weekend. The dragsters, part of an international STEM competition (the Formula One in Schools Technology Challenge), that students had entered, were designed using a professional CAD program.

SPCC Stage Band plays at Lizottes

Exciting, inspiring and joyful are just a few words to describe the amazing night of music and fellowship enjoyed by many in the St Philip’s Christian College community earlier this week.  In a first for the College, the SPCC Stage Band, under the expert direction of Mr James Laundon, took the platform at Newcastle’s premier music venue, Lizotte’s, and entertained the audience with a jam-packed program of classic and modern jazz. Some highlights of the program included Feelin’ Good, In the Mood, The Jazz Police, Smooth, Orange Coloured Sky, Chameleon, The Way you Look Tonight, and Workin’ Out, with improvised solos from a range of ensemble members.

The Science and Engineering Challenge is a nationwide STEM* outreach program presented by the University of Newcastle in partnership with communities, Rotary clubs, universities and sponsors.

Mary Poppins - The Broadway Musical

At the end of Term 2, our Senior School performed Mary Poppins - The Broadway Musical at the Civic Theatre Newcastle.  Over 7000 people came to see the show.  


Engineering students aim for Aviation Careers

Over the past several years, an increasing number of Senior School students have developed an interest in Aeronautics.

Engineering students to attend Advanced Space Academy in USA

Last week two students in the Year 11 Engineering Studies class received a $5000 grant each from the Federal Government to assist them to attend the Advanced Space Academy in the USA during the September school holidays.
