School Development

In 2017 we have numerous building projects at various stages of development.  The following is an outline of the projects currently underway at each of our schools.

Cessnock

Junior School Phase 2 – Handover of the new Junior School facility was completed to enable Junior School staff and students to begin the 2016 school year in their new facility. The Junior School includes an open common area for combined Junior School activities, customisable learning spaces, foyer and administration and offices. Much time has been dedicated to ensure the building is eco-friendly and seamlessly integrates the building with natural surrounds of the Cessnock School grounds.DALE – Construction of the new DALE Cessnock facility is complete and handover will occur in February. The DALE project has come on the back of much research into best design for most effective learning. Located on the grounds of St Philip’s Christian College at Nulkaba, the new building has four large classrooms, plus ‘chill out’ rooms designed to help reduce anxiety. Choice of colours and natural light have all been carefully considered for this specialised space.Sports Centre – A new multipurpose centre and sports facility for our Cessnock School is currently in the design phase with proposed handover mid 2017DALE Sports Facility – A grant application is being prepared for dedicated sports facility for DALE Cessnock.Narnia Cessnock – Narnia Cessnock is still in the early planning stage. We will commence a formal development application once we have resolved some road access and infrastructure issues. It is anticipated that Narnia Cessnock will be opening sometime during 2018.

Port Stephens
Senior School – A new senior school is being designed for our Port Stephens School which will adequately house our growing number of senior school students and include state-of-the-art specailised facilities and integrated technology. Proposed handover late 2017.Entry/ Carpark – Development Application approval is being sought for a new carpark and entrance to our Port Stephens School. Proposed handover for this development is mid 2017.Sports Centre – Development is in the design phase for a new sports facility. The design will be submitted to Port Stephens City Council for development application approval in April 2016.Narnia Port Stephens- All development approvals have finally been obtained after two and a half years of negotiating and problem solving. We will be going out to tender on the project during April and hope to have work underway by end of May. Narnia Port Stephens will be opening in January 2017.

Newcastle
Classroom Block – Growing enrollments at our Newcastle School has resulted in a need for added classroom facilities. A grant application is underway for a new classroom block at our Newcastle School. We are working toward a proposed handover of late 2017 for this development.

Gosford
Junior School Phase 1 - The design is complete for the new Junior School facility at our Gosford School. Resident architect Ian Easton has created a design that seamlessly integrates the building with the natural landscape of the site, with part of the building being set into the side of the sloping block. One of the focuses at Gosford is to incorporate natural classrooms into the teaching program, so this development will be ideal in aiding staff in this endeavor. The design and approval component of this project is almost complete and construction will soon be underway. Proposed handover mid 2017.Senior Rooms – The growing Senior School at our Gosford School has resulted in the need for expansion of our Senior School rooms. Design is underway for this new development with a view to transition to the construction phase in 2017.

Foundation Office
There has been a substantial transition of the St Philip’s Corporate Office to the Foundation Office throughout 2015. The role of the staff in the Foundation Office has been clearly defined to support each of the St Philip’s schools and work for the organisation as a whole. Currently the staff are working from various locations, predominantly the administration office of our Newcastle School. However, design is now underway for a dedicated Foundation Office to be constructed. This facility will house all of the Foundation Office staff and incorporate a board room for combined meetings with each of the schools and a space for design and development. It will be the epicenter for ICT and a support office for each of our St Philip’s Schools.

Below is a scope of works for all current building development across the St Philip's Christian College organisation
