Work Experience at St Philip's Christian College: New Experiences
This week I have been on work experience at St Philip's Christian College Cessnock, learning about the role of Public Relations and Marketing in a school.
It has been a great week having fun and learning heaps of new things throughout the week! I have always been interested in graphic design and photography, so I was really keen to give it a try and learn more about the role of PR, to see if it could be a possible career choice.
Throughout the week I completed many tasks, with the majority including posters to advertise upcoming events within the school. My first task was to design a couple of advertisements to post on the school’s Facebook page. I liked starting with this task because it gave me the chance to explore new programs that I hadn’t really used before, without having to create a complex design.
Later that day I also created a range of designs to go onto the LED sign out the front of the school. This task was again, another chance for me to experiment with a program that I didn’t have a lot of experience with.
Fact or Fiction: I'm Just Not That Creative?: Every child is an artist, the problem is staying an artist when you grow up.
I have always enjoyed photography and this week I was able to go with the school's Media and Communications Officer, Ellie, to help with a couple of photoshoots around the school. We went and took some photos for junior school and their classwork. We also had to take some photos later in the week of some artworks that the junior school kids had painted. Two other photoshoots that I got to do was of Kindergarten and another one of the Year 5 thank you afternoon tea.
Thank you to my supervisor Ellie Rolfe, I have had an amazing week full of laughs and new experiences. Throughout the week she has let me come with her to photoshoots that she has done for the school, let me tag along in a couple of meetings and has made sure I have had a fun week overall.
I am really happy with my choice of work experience and it is definitely something I would be interested in as a career.
