Jumping into Junior School Physical Education
We have had an absolutely amazing start to Junior School Physical Education for 2019. From completing the Mascots Challenge in which aided our cricket skills, to the swimming carnival, to the cross country and into the Colour Run. Our students at St Philip's Christian College Cessnock have had an awesome time competing and being active.
Our goal for 2019 is too 'build character'. As a motif for this theme we have looked towards the Mr and Mrs Men book characters. This is so that our students are able to see an array of colourful displays of characteristics in Mr Strong, Miss Strong, Mr Clever, Miss Clever and so on. It is these positive character traits that help us to be the best we can be. We all inherently have these character traits, it's just about drawing them out - especially in the world of sport, where often our worst character traits can instead be drawn out. We try to demonstrate these positive characteristics whilst learning in class or out playing sport in the playground.
At our Kindergarten to Year 2 Swimming Carnival, students were granted a spectacular opportunity to enjoy sport, also participate in many activities but most importantly showcase their Mr and Mrs Men characteristics - showing their true talents and strengths.
This year we were lucky enough to have our very first Year Two to Year Four Swimming Carnival, in which our students displayed these amazing traits. They did their best regardless of whether or not they won or lost. They also ran their best at the Cross Country, displaying their Mr Strong, and Miss Strong characteristics when the terrain was tough. They then showcased their Mr Happy and Miss Happy characteristics when they ran the Colour Run course (thank you P&F).
This year we have also introduced our 'Sport-eez' tokens. Our Junior School students at St Philip's Christian College Cessnock can earn these tokens during Physical Education classes for showing great skill and sportsmanship.
We have had consistently amazing moments throughout Term 1 for Junior School Physical Education. We saw our first House Captains and Vice Captains for Junior School PE, which is very exciting for the students - allowing incredible leadership opportunities that ensure our little athletes learn to lead, motivate others and themselves, encourage others but most of all work as a team. We cannot wait to see the ways in which our Junior School PE students continue to SOAR in 2019.
Thank you to the parents, staff and P&F for an amazing first term!
