Gosford's 2009 School Captain's SpeechMonday 12th October 2009 Good morning parents, teachers, students and Year 12, class of 2009.
Words can not begin to describe my experience at this school over the past 13 years of my life; Each and every day has been a life changing experience for not only myself, but all of our Year 12 students here today, in causing us to develop and grow in who we are, in growing together, and growing in God.
My mum has been reminding me lately of my first few days of kindergarten where she would have to drag me to school as I would be crying and saying “I didn’t want to go”, and now here I am, 13 years later, crying to her just last night of how “I don’t want to leave”.
This school has been such an incredible part of my life and I know I speak on behalf of all of Year 12 in saying that it is such a blessing and a privilege to have attended St Philips Christian College.
I myself, along with every other Year 12 student here today, have been extremely blessed by the relationships with our teachers as we have grown together over the years. The qualities of these relationships and friendships have continued to amaze me in their rarity in comparison to the teacher-student relationship seen at many other schools.
To all our teachers, the loving and nurturing culture and spirit of this school that you have displayed, day in and day out, has played a huge part in all of our lives in the secure and positive atmosphere that you create through your encouraging and motivating words which drive us towards a prosperous future, not only in respect of our careers, but in our everyday lives.
Their influence in our lives has always encouraged us to exceed under any circumstance to better and greater things in life, aiming high, the sky the limit.
Year 12, we have had such amazing experiences together throughout all these years. We’ve created unbelievable memories together as our friendships grew and grew, and as we worked together, we learned we could achieve anything AKA “I do what I want”.
Along with the help of our amazing Year Advisor, Mrs. Evans, pulling us into line, yelling at us to get organized “What do you think your doing?! Get it together Year 12!” and our trusty, handyman Mr. Kelleher, who secretly gets a thrill out of our last minute activities, such as barbeques and car wash’s to which he is only notified the day of, we always seem to pull things together and achieve anything.
Our experience at this school and the dedication and care of our teachers will never cease to amaze us and will never be forgotten. I just hope and pray that the relationships built in this school, both with our teachers and the student body will continue as life carries us on our own path.
As we leave this safe and secure environment that has for so long been our lives, and head into the new and unknown, we can be encouraged that God has incredible plans for us all. Plans to prosper, to give hope and to give a future.
Whilst this school has been such an adventure in all our lives, our experiences here will be greatly missed and always remembered.
And I speak on behalf of all of Year 12 in saying it has been such an honor and a privilege in attending St Philips Christian College.
