Book FairFriday 4th September 2009 St Philip’s Christian College, Gosford had a very successful Book Week.
The celebrations were a whole school affair, with children from Kinder to Year 11 actively participating in the activities.
The week started with the library launching its Book Fair. Monday lunchtime children flocked to the library to see the Book Fair and were awed by the quantity of books and novelties available from Scholastic, Cornerstone Books on the Coast and Koorong. The Book Fair continued for the week and was a lively and fun event with visits from children, parents, family and friends. It was wonderful to see children with their parents and friends browsing, sharing and buying - as one student said: “Very cool stuff”.
As well, the library held a Book Parade and “Book Cafe”. Parents, family and friends arrived during lunch on the Monday and were able to have coffee prepared by Hospitality students who had completed their barista’s training.
The whole-school nature of the book parade was shown as students from K-11, as well as teachers, dressed up as book characters for the parade – there was even a cameo appearance by the principal and assistant principal as Sir Lancelot and Maid Marion!
Clifford the big red dog created great excitement as he met with children and accompanied some on the parade. Mrs Julie Frendin, Head of Junior School, said of the parade that, “There was a wonderful “buzz” to our Campus ...the number of parents attending the Book Parade and Coffee Shop was a great encouragement”.
In all, the College’s celebration of Book Week thus far, has been a wonderful success.
