New Middle School BuildingWednesday 5th August 2009 What an exciting phase in the life of the College! Next Monday, students commence lessons in the new Middle School building; the culmination of a project that commenced at a staff planning meeting in April 2005. At this meeting we dreamed of all that a new building could be, and staff have been blessed to have had such an influence on the design and features of the building that we trust will have a positive impact on the students’ schooling. Finally the building has arrived, and now the time has come for the building to have an influence on us!
The building is big and it’s visible, and it makes a statement to the community, but it will influence and inspire more than quality teaching and learning. I believe that the new building will have significant influence in the following areas:
Our Christian ministry – the building bears testimony that the work of God in this place is permanent, not just temporary. Staff have already met inside the building to pray and give thanks to God and seek His covering of blessing and protection.
The wider community – the building shows that SPCC is a growing and innovative school.
The educational community – the building says that SPCC is committed to Junior, Middle and Senior schooling; a model that has benefits for all sub-schools and is here to stay.
The school community – the building says that SPCC is a school that desires AND provides the very best for its students and staff.
The students – the building tells them we value who they are and their learning so highly that we are prepared to spend millions of dollars on them. Their response should be to honour this investment and make the most of the learning opportunities offered to them. Will you encourage your child to do this?
The new building has been cleverly designed by architect, Mr Ian Easton, to reflect the theme of the Middle School, ‘Enjoying the Journey’. As you enter it for the first time, you will be impressed by the ways in which this theme is expressed throughout the building using a number of features. Most noticeable are the internal lines of the building which are smooth and flowing, and entice those who enter to go on a journey to explore what’s around the next corner. Isn’t this what we desire for our children? There is so much that God has for us in life, and we want to walk hand in hand with Him to see what good things he has for us around the next bend.
This Saturday, parents, students and staff are welcome to help with the moving of resources and equipment from the ‘old’ to the ‘new’. Many families have already indicated that they are able to help for some time between 8.00am and 1.00pm, and if you can spare an hour or two, your time and efforts will be appreciated. Please contact the Middle School Office to let us know of your availability. A free sausage sizzle will be provided by the PTF for all of our volunteers. If you can’t make it on Saturday, please call in sometime soon to inspect the building and enjoy the journey with us.
Excited? I am.
