Promoting a Healthy School EnvironmentMonday 1st June 2009 At St Philip’s Christian College we always want to promote a safe and healthy environment, therefore when important health issues arise we like to keep you informed.
The following alert is provided by the Association of Independent Schools: ‘In light of confirmation of further cases of Human Swine Influenza in Australian school children over the last few days, the NSW Department of Health seeks the assistance of schools in identifying children and staff who have recently travelled to Mexico, the USA, Canada, Japan and Panama and requests that those in this situation be excluded from the school environment for seven (7) days, the maximum incubation period for the virus, to limit the potential exposure of others in the community.
It is critical to the national effort to contain and limit the spread of the virus for such action to be taken should any staff or students meet the criteria outlined.’
For advice and information about Human Swine Influenza please contact your local Public Health Unit on 4924 6477. More information, including Fact Sheets, can be obtained from the NSW Department of Health website at
http://www.health.nsw.gov.au/publichealth/swine_flu.asp. The Australian Government has made human swine influenza a quarantinable disease. The NSW Government has made human swine influenza a notifiable disease.
Please contact the College if you have travelled or intend to travel to any of the areas listed above, since there are implications for your child’s return to school. If you are unsure, or need further information please contact the Public Health Unit or check the Department of Health website as above.
