Empowering Youth 2009Tuesday 17th March 2009 Our biggest ever EMPOWERING YOUTH ran over two days and one night last week. Topped off by a HUGE night rally, the conference centred around the theme –“DEEPER”. Students were encouraged to go DEEPER in their relationship with God and in their commitment to love and serve one another. A vital part of this year’s conference was our partnership with the wonderful young adults at YWAM. They helped to run electives, took part in the night rally, and generally supported us in many ways. It is also always a bonus to have ex-students involved in the bands, running sections of the night rally, dancing etc. Thanks Brittany West, Joel O’dea, Szymon Borzestowski, and co for your continued support.
Our own chapel band led the praise and worship times on the Thursday, supported by students from SPCC Port Stephens. What a great job they did and their maturity and capable worship leading was exemplary! Special thanks to Nat West and Nic Dillon–Smith who led the practices leading up to the event.
Our keynote speaker, Dan Lian from Citilife Church in Melbourne, supported by our local Hunter youth communicators (Sue Prosser and Kirk Macateer) edified and encouraged the students. What a joy it was to see hundreds responding to their God-given destiny, finding meaning and purpose in life, and overcoming many difficulties to grow personally. A highlight was the session taken by our very own Nathan Errington, who began as a student at Empowering but is fast becoming a powerful communicator in his own right, speaking to the students about the vision for Empowering and the students’ own ability to think big and live big.
Bree – Lacey, a Year 11 SPCC student, said about the conference, “It was great to spend time in God’s presence and learn more about Him and His character. It is always encouraging to hang out with other people who feel the same way about God and their faith.”
Next year is our TENTH year of running Empowering conferences and rallies and the theme is ‘CELEBRATE”. Stay tuned for more information, but if you would like to be involved in sponsoring Empowering or helping out, p[lease give us a call at the College.
Empowering Girls 2009 is on the 14th August. Stay tuned for more info!!
