Newcastle, Gosford and Port Stephens campuses have joined together as part of an International Student Program (ISP). This exciting cross campus initiative shares a common Christian vision, purpose, resources and people in order to reach out and embrace God’s community, especially in developing nations. I believe we need an international student program in order to:

  • Bring an international perspective to our beliefs, learning, pastoral care and living skills
  • Promote a mission focus- ‘Sowing seeds’ for Christian love and growth
  • Raise Cultural Awareness- better understand and empathise with people from different backgrounds

On Friday 20th February the international students and staff attended a Commencement Ceremony at our Gosford campus that was designed to promote unity, excellence and encouragement. Executive Principal Mr Graeme Irwin welcomed the students, prayed for them and gave a great message on unity and acceptance.

Students participated in a Community Building session where they shared the benefits of coming to Australia and the challenges they are experiencing in an unfamiliar setting. Everyone learnt a great deal from these shared experiences.

At present we have 12 wonderful students from Korea (3) and China (9.)They enrich our College and we love having them here (International Students at Newcastle –defined as students here on student visas)

Also, there are many other students at SPCC schools who come from or share their national heritage with overseas countries. We also affirm and encourage these local students.

At Newcastle, we are especially appreciative of our teaching and administrative staff that supports the academic, homestay, ESL and student welfare aspects of the international program. Without their skill, care and hard work the program would not operate as effectively as it is. In particular, I would like to commend Anne Anschau-Roach (our International Student Adviser); Judy Anastopoulos (ESL Coordinator); Carolina Gibson (ESL Teacher); and Meredith Hannaford (Admin Support) for their outstanding work with our international students. Kate Kelleher at Gosford has also provided great knowledge, passion and support for the ISP in Newcastle and Port Stephens.

Please pray for all of our students, including international students, that they will settle in well and feel that they are accepted and belong in our College.

Robert Baker (Assistant Principal)
Executive Director International Student Program
